Having grown up in a household of just two men, it's not often that Dane has seen this level of feminine touch. Even Meg's bathroom doesn't feel like this. Recovering from his momentary sensory overload, he looks around for a washcloth that he can wet and use to dab the potatoes off his shirt. At the same time, he's already pulling the tablet out and powering it up.

Using one hand on the wet washcloth and the other to drive the tablet, he does a quick search for sudden onset psychic abilities first.

OOC: 1% roll on research!

Dane manages to completely dab up the gravy stain, leaving only a faint wet mark on the fabric. Lucky. Turning his attention back to the screen, he initiates a deep search through the classified psionic research archives. Scroll after scroll of observed and heavily documented talents flicker past, but none match the unnerving description he seeks.

Except one.

The entry is fragmented, stripped of names and redacted by time. It points back to the Dark Ages, during a dark chapter of history, detailing a solitary psychic, who was hunted down and summarily executed without trial. Their alleged offense: the terrifying capacity to forcefully awaken dormant powers in others, or grant full psychic abilities outright.

Satisfied he has squeezed every drop of data from the entry, Dane reaches out to power down the tablet. Then, on a random impulse, he pauses. He pulls up a search bar and plugs in a physical description along with the name Jezebel, fully expecting a dead end.

What comes back is a profile on a sub-human D-Bee class known as a Psi-Stalker. Essentially, predatory humans who don't bother with mundane food or water, preferring instead to hunt down psychics, sorcerers, and monsters for sustenance... or psychic vampires as many call them, minus the dramatic cape and aversion to garlic. Widely tolerated across various cultures, sure, but definitely not the type anyone trusts with the keys to the kingdom.

As for the name Jezebel? That search goes predictably off the rails, yielding nothing but ancient biblical insults for manipulative harlots. Hardly top of the list for baby names. Every other physical match points to obscure alien species that look about as much like Jez as a donkey looks like a racehorse.

Meanwhile, Jezebel is so thoroughly absorbed in plotting a potential escape that Joe’s question bounces right off her. Joe just shakes his head, doing his absolute best to look ultra-stealthy while surreptitiously shoving a giant piece of apple pie into his mouth. Mindy catches him red-handed and bursts out laughing.

Not to be outdone in the dessert department, Maggie attacks his slice like a sandwich, showering the table in a rain of pastry crumbs.

Belle finally settles in with her own plate, practically beaming with self-congratulatory pride over the meal. She looks over at Mindy with a glowing smile. "You did so wonderful on supper, sweetie! Thank you!"

Mindy lets out a long sigh. "Mom... you cooked. Don't you remember?"

Joe’s smile fades as he watches the exchange, trading a heavy, silent look with Mindy. Smelling an impending awkward silence, he clears his throat and tries to steer the ship back to safe waters. "So, Jezebel... where are you two off to that landed you way out here? It's a bit off the beaten path unless you're making a run for Smith Falls."
